Job Description

At Pluck'd, we're building a massive, state-of-the-art, 65-acre greenhouse in Carroll County, Virginia - a facility designed to revolutionize how fresh produce is grown and delivered. While our first tomatoes won't roll off the vine until 2026, we need a skilled Maintenance Supervisor now to help set up systems and processes for long-term success.

In this role, you'll start by working directly with equipment, contractors, and vendors to ensure our greenhouse and packhouse are built and maintained to the highest standards. As production ramps up, you'll hire, train, and lead a team of maintenance technicians, transitioning from being the hands-on fixer to the leader who keeps everything running smoothly.

If you thrive on building from the ground up and want to see the literal fruits of your labor grow year after year, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape one of the most advanced greenhouses in the Mid-Atlantic.

Key Responsibilities:

Greenhouse & Packhouse Systems

  • Assist in the setup and testing of key systems during the construction and pre-launch phase, including irrigation, fertigation, climate controls, and automation equipment.

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth start-up.

  • Oversee packhouse machinery maintenance to prepare for efficient, safe produce handling and packaging.

General Facility Maintenance

  • Ensure overall facility readiness, including HVAC systems, utilities, plumbing, and building infrastructure.

  • Establish preventive maintenance plans and SOPs for all critical systems and equipment.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and work orders to support compliance and audits.

Team Leadership & Vendor Management

  • Work directly with contractors, suppliers, and external service providers during the initial phase to support system installations and specialized repairs.

  • Build and lead a maintenance team as operations scale, including recruiting, training, and scheduling technicians.

  • Develop training resources and standardized procedures to ensure a safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance program.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to urgent issues, with a stipend or additional compensation provided.

Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure all maintenance work meets regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.

  • Collaborate with growing and operations teams to identify opportunities for process improvements.

  • Recommend equipment upgrades and efficiency improvements to reduce downtime and improve reliability.

Qualifications & Skills:

Must-Have:

  • 5+ years of industrial, manufacturing, or facility maintenance experience.

  • Hands-on expertise with electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.

  • Experience working with or supervising maintenance teams or contractors.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and calm, solution-oriented decision-making under pressure.

  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and safety documentation.

  • Willingness to work flexible hours and participate in an on-call rotation.

Nice-to-Have (but not required):

  • Experience in greenhouse or controlled-environment agriculture maintenance.

  • Familiarity with irrigation systems, greenhouse climate controls, or packhouse automation.

  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

  • OSHA certification or relevant safety training.
