The Maintenance Supervisor provides leadership and direction to the assigned maintenance team, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant utilities, processing, packaging, and facility systems. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position oversees daily work execution, prioritizes preventive and corrective maintenance, and drives continuous improvement while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and company standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise and assign maintenance technicians to Work Orders (WOs) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks; ensure accurate documentation and close-out in the CMMS.
- Serve as the shift’s primary technical decision-maker; assess severity, determine go/no-go, and escalate issues as needed.
- Provide end-of-shift updates summarizing issues resolved, carry-over items, and safety/quality concerns.
- Enforce company policies and SOPs; uphold safety programs including LOTO, confined space, hot work, and GMP requirements.
- Approve timecards, monitor attendance, and manage team performance.
- Train, coach, and evaluate maintenance staff; identify skill gaps and support development plans.
- Collaborate with Production leadership to balance throughput needs with equipment care.
- Monitor utilities and facility systems; respond to calls and lead troubleshooting efforts.
- Verify completion and quality of PM tasks; generate corrective WOs and ensure spare parts availability.
- Maintain a clean, organized shop and enforce 5S practices.
- Coordinate vendors/contractors and ensure safe, compliant work.
- Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives related to reliability, OEE, and predictive maintenance.
- Manage unionized employees in accordance with the CBA, company policies, and workplace rules.
- Collaborate with HR and management on attendance, performance, and conduct issues.
- Train employees on safe work practices, policies, procedures, guidelines, and rules.
- Conduct weekly safety meetings.
- Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field ; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- Experience with a CMMS (e.g., Hippo, eMaint, Asset Manager).
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge; ability to read prints and schematics.
- Basic PLC/controls literacy; advanced knowledge a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish .
Physical Requirements:
- Role requires presence in both office and plant environments.
- Regular time spent on the production floor and in maintenance areas.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, chemicals, and industrial equipment.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and manual handling of tools and parts.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
- Willingness and ability to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as needed to support plant operations.
- Must maintain mental alertness, focus, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
