Allstate Can, a division of The Ohio Art Company, is in search of a Maintenance & Set Up Mechanic. This position will be required to work 4 days a week (M-Th 6a-4:30pm) with overtime potential on Fridays.

The Maintenance & Set-Up Mechanic will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing high-speed production equipment used in the manufacturing of metal cans. Working under the terms outlined in the collective bargaining agreement, this role will ensures optimal machine performance, contribute to minimizing downtime, and support the overall production goals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, adjust, and maintain production machinery such as body makers, neckers, trimmers, flangers, and other can-making equipment.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) tasks on automation equipment, focusing on electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Interpret and modify electrical schematics, ensuring system integrity.
  • Diagnose and repair issues in PLCs, VFDs, and other control systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Use precision tools and measuring instruments to ensure accurate setups and alignments.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate maintenance logs and equipment service records, following all documentation procedures.
  • Comply with all plant safety policies and procedures, including proper lockout/tagout practices and use of PPE.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and job audits as required.
  • Collaborate with electricians, shop foremens and production operators per union craft jurisdiction guidelines.
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices.

Requirements:


  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trades school certification .
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance role, preferably within can-making or metal packaging industries.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience with gears, belts, bearings, and alignment of moving parts.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools, grinders, and basic machining tools safely and effectively.
  • Familiarity with union shop protocols and maintenance work rules under a collective bargaining agreement.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time, hourly position governed by the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers (IAMS contract).
  • Work to be performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment.
  • Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
