Mechanic Technician

Thompson Equipment Maintenance, Inc. is currently seeking a Mechanic Technician to support the Shop’s fleet in the Charleston Tri-County area. The majority of duties assigned to this position will involve heavy equipment maintenance, fleet maintenance and upkeep of construction equipment on site in the local area.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Mechanic Technician may be responsible for inspecting equipment to locate and determine the extent of necessary repairs and take corrective action necessary.
  • The role will be dispatched to the field for routine repairs and service repairs on automobiles, trucks, tractors, mixer trucks, dozers, excavators, pumps, and the like, inclusive to diesel and gasoline engines and similar equipment.
  • Must be able to drive company vehicle to area site for minor repairs
  • Electrical experience and parts repair is strongly
  • Makes installation or repairs to special equipment
  • Operates and maintains tools and machinery used in the repair and maintenance of heavy maintenance and construction equipment
  • Assists Shop Foreman in the selection of parts for equipment.
  • Performs minor welding and brazing work as needed if properly trained
  • Keeps simple records and reports and turn those in daily in a timely and order manner
  • Assists internal customer’s drivers and operators on a daily basis.
  • HOURS typically: Monday through Friday, 6am - 5pm but may vary

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • two years (2) of varied mechanical experience within a certified shop.
  • Possession of a valid South Carolina Class D license and a clean driving record is a minimum requirement since this will be a driving position
  • Use of your own tools; specialty tools will be provided.
  • 21 years of .
  • Must be authorized to work in the US
  • Must have a clean driving record and background
  • Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
  • Must meet company employment standards regarding background and driving records as needed. Have a clean 10-year Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Have the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 90 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to stand, kneel and crouch for long periods of time.
  • Flexible availability to include overtime and possible weekends required.
  • Work environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions such as rain and extreme temperatures. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, loud noises, etc.
  • that you live in the Charleston Metro area, within a 50-mile radius

Skills/Experience

  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in construction, assembly, overhaul, repair and adjustment of gas and diesel-powered trucks, heavy construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating heavy construction and maintenance equipment as well as gas and diesel-powered trucks.
  • Electrical experience and able to change out parts.
  • Knowledge of safety, regulations and practices.
  • Ability to read and write English at a level required for successful job performance and communicate effectively.
  • Work from simple drawings and sketches and make sketches of broken parts for replacement.
