Maintenance Manager

Reporting directly to the Director of Maintenance and Engineering, this position is responsible for providing direction, guidance, motivation and development for the Maintenance Department to achieve established production goals consistent with ISO 9001, Quality, and Safety standards. The Maintenance Manager leads the plant maintenance efforts ensuring that the facility, equipment and machinery are maintained and updated consistent with the company’s goals and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote, support and enforce ISO 9001 standards as they apply to the Extrusions Maintenance department
  • Control and administer all activities in the Extrusions Maintenance department
  • Lead the Extrusions Maintenance function in providing multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment. This includes total preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, electrical and automated equipment.
  • Responsible for planned scheduling creation and overseeing the adherence and timely completion of work carried out.
  • Increase the site operational effectiveness by implementing improvements on project delivery and mean time reduction between failure and downtime. Manages and implements improvement plans by driving Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) to ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered to.
  • Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures while also mentoring and leading the employees.
  • Implement and manage continuous development and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending improvements in training, working practices, and processes.
  • Lead maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Train maintenance staff as well as Managers or operators on maintenance items, and leads in a hands-on way.
  • High level understanding of manufacturing equipment maintenance (hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, etc.)
  • Responsible to ensure the stringent enforcement of all company and safety policies
  • Set ambitious production goals aligned with company goals - communicate them to all department employees
  • Establish objectives to improve team performance and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives
  • Strive to reduce expenses and increase productivity
  • Establish workflow policies that enhance speed and efficiency without compromising product safety or integrity
  • Monitor machines and equipment to ensure productivity and minimal downtime
  • Ensure employees receive proper training focusing and promoting Safety, Quality, and Productivity
  • Oversee all hiring and disciplinary decisions in accordance with company guidelines
  • Develop positive team environment which focuses on Safety, Quality, Production and Employee Satisfaction
  • Capture and track data as required for reporting purposes
  • People management and budgetary/cost reporting
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Must have complete understanding of all functions and operations of the Maintenance department
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 elements and understanding of their applicability to the Maintenance Department
  • Strong Analytical, Problem Solving, Delegation, Conflict Resolution, Motivational and Team Building skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal, Communication, Time Management and Self-Motivation skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
  • Lean Manufacturing Experience / Continuous improvement experience
  • Excellent knowledge of PLC/HMI systems and Computerized Maintenance Systems (CMMS) is CRITICAL
  • Must have an excellent background in Preventative and Predictive Maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of maintaining manufacturing equipment such as motors, drives, air compressors, chillers, grinders, water pumps, PLC/HMI controls, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulics experience.

  • Display strong design capabilities, leadership experience and clear communications skills to lead projects
  • Understand safety codes needed for creating electrical devices

  • Has a strong understanding of PLC troubleshooting, and general maintenance
  • Experience in Industrial Control Systems

Job Requirements

  • Ability to perform essential duties of job description
  • 5 years of manufacturing maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Control systems design and software programming
  • Experience in a continuous process such as aluminum extrusion and production
  • Supervision of maintenance techs for 3+ years or more.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous supervisor experience required
