PRIMARY FUNCTION:

A Machinist translates the specifications of a shop’s clients into precision parts by determining how best to produce the required item and then manufacturing it accordingly. They decide which machines to use for each step, how to position or load the materials and what speed and batch size settings are necessary to achieve desired effects. Once manufacturing begins, they make modifications to variables like speed and temperature to ensure consistent performance. When a Machinist performs their job duties effectively, they can help to ensure that your machine shop produces high-quality parts that will perform optimally in instruments, tools and machines to benefit your internal or external clients.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Familiarity with operation of manual lathe, mill, Drill press, sanding finishing machine.

2. Knowledge of reading, interpreting & making parts drawings/prints – AutoCAD, hand sketch.

3. Knowledge of how to operate grinders, lathes and milling machines.

4. Math skills to take precise measurements and make calculations.

5. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

6. Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop effective manufacturing plans based on specifications.

7. Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that arise during the manufacturing process.

8. Ability to move roughly 50 to 75 pounds and remain stationary throughout a shift.

9. Understanding of health and safety regulations to reduce the risk of workplace accidents.

10. Adhere to all company policies, procedures, rules, and regulations in effect.

11. Use various hand tools necessary to set-up and operate all equipment and machinery involved.

12. Adhere to all personal protective equipment requirements as specified in company policies including but not limited to use of safety glasses in designated areas, protective gloves when handling heated surfaces and inks and solvents.

13. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

1. High School diploma or equivalent. Certificate or associate degree in precision machining or NIMS .

2. Must be able to read, write, and comprehend the English (i.e., the of all plant directives) for required document control, equipment operation, and supervisor/peer instructions.

3. Must perform simple mathematics to be able to understand process sheets, masters, and SOP manuals.

4. Must be able to lift 50 to 70 lbs.
