Position Overview:
The Maintenance and Engineering Manager at Chem32's Orange Texas site oversees maintenance, engineering, and safety operations to ensure efficient and compliant facility functioning. This role involves managing energy use, capital projects, process safety, and emergency preparedness while leading maintenance staff and collaborating with various teams.
- Management and Oversight Responsibilities: The manager reports to the Site Director and directly supervises maintenance supervisors and engineers, supporting production and logistics teams with technical and safety expertise, setting maintenance standards, and developing preventive programs to enhance reliability and operational efficiency.
- Compliance and Safety Leadership: This position ensures adherence to Ecovyst Engineering Procedures, OSHA, environmental regulations, and process safety standards, including managing seven of the twenty CCPS Risk Based Process Safety Elements, serving as Emergency Response Coordinator, and participating in health and safety committees.
- Qualifications and Technical Expertise: Candidates require a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering, with multi-disciplinary skills, especially in electrical and instrumentation areas, experience in process automation systems, and knowledge of statutory requirements related to utilities and safety, alongside strong leadership and analytical abilities.
What you will be doing:
- Responsible for the planning and daily operations of the maintenance department, including contractors.
- Provide primary customer interface to plant operations.
- Maintain Maintenance forecast and monitor spending.
- Oversee area maintenance and capital activities.
- Drive improvement in Planning and Scheduling Activities, Backlog Mgmt., PM Compliance and Optimization, reliability, and TA Planning and Execution.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory mechanical integrity inspections.
- Perform performance assessments to drive improvement.
- Drive area improvement by creating and maintaining an accountability culture.
- Ensure that all company and regulatory requirements are met for Maintenance Employees.
- Ability to work additional hours to accomplish objectives and ensure high performance of the plant. This includes carrying a cellular phone and making call outs.
- Participate in Maintenance Network Team activity.
- Participation in Employee Excellence Committee
- Duties also involve managing facility utility consumption, recommending efficiency projects, reviewing billing, and handling engineering activities such as capital improvement plans, bid solicitation, and contract management for projects under $100,000.
- Responsible for planning and schedule, backlog management, & PM Compliance and Optimization
- Abide by the Company, plant, and lab policies/procedures and safety rules.
- Lead, support, promote, improve, and enforce compliance, all HS&E, corporate/plant policies, procedures, performance standards and ISO/RC 14001
- Activity participates in HSE and Process Safety activities and initiatives (Employee Participation Program)
- Promote/Comply with all HSES company programs
- Set and maintain HSE expectations for Maintenance Front-line Supervisor (FLS), Mtc. Lead, Maintenance and Reliability Engineer, Planner/Scheduler, and Mechanical Integrity Coordinator.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Min of 10 plus years of experience in maintenance within a chemical plant and/or refinery
- Excellent Computer knowledge (e.g., MS Office and SAP).
- Strong leadership skills
- Must have working knowledge of Maintenance related activities.
- Must be able to troubleshoot concerns and problems in the Maintenance Department (basic engineering principles)
