Job Description
Role: Maintenance Engineer
Location: Tonawanda, NY (about 25 minutes outside Buffalo)
Duration: 12 months
You will be responsible for:
- Perform hands-on installation, commissioning, and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of freeze dryers and related life sciences equipment
- Execute corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance with a focus on lyophilization systems
- Conduct temperature mapping studies for freeze dryers and associated systems
- Perform I/O checks, including simulation of physical and electrical signals to verify system functionality
- Execute calibration of instrumentation loops, including temperature, pressure, and vacuum systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and PLC/control system issues directly on equipment
- Carry out on-site repair, adjustment, and fault isolation activities with minimal supervision
- Support equipment start-up, functional testing, and performance verification
- Prepare customer sites for installation, including equipment assembly and readiness activities
About you:
- Proven hands-on experience with lyophilization (freeze dryer) equipment in a pharma, biotech, or life sciences setting
- Strong background in electro-mechanical maintenance and field service work
- Demonstrated ability to independently perform:
- Temperature mapping
- I/O checks (signal simulation)
- Instrumentation loop calibration (temperature, pressure, vacuum)
- Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, and SAT activities (execution-focused, not documentation-heavy)
- Solid understanding of:
- Mechanical and electrical systems
- PLC-controlled equipment and basic controls troubleshooting
- Fault finding and root cause analysis
- Ability and willingness to work fully on-site and in the field, including physical work on equipment
- Comfortable operating autonomously with minimal oversight while interfacing directly with customers
