Job Description
Shift Engineer – 12-Hour Shifts (4 on / 4 off) - Days
Location: Bishops StortfordDepartment: EngineeringHours: 07:00am to 19:00pm
Role Overview
Responsible for maintaining safe and efficient site operations through planned and reactive maintenance of plant, machinery, facilities, and utilities. Supports continuous improvement, reliability and site performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow GMP, technical procedures, hygiene, and Health & Safety standards.
- Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across all production and facility areas.
- Respond quickly to breakdowns to reduce downtime.
- Diagnose faults independently and suggest improvements.
- Support continuous improvement and new equipment projects.
- Maintain tools, workshops, and engineering areas safely.
- Keep accurate maintenance logs and assist with parts and stock.
- Work effectively with production teams, contractors and on-site stakeholders.
- Represent engineering professionally at all times.
Requirements
- 3+ years engineering experience in FMCG or similar environments.
- Multi-skilled with NVQ Level 3+ in Mechanical or Electrical engineering.
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship.
- Electrical Regulations certification.
- Experience in regulated industries; chilled/frozen environment .
- Strong fault-finding and breakdown analysis skills.
- Health & Safety and basic food hygiene knowledge.
- Ability to read technical drawings and use CMMS systems.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Able to work under pressure and independently.
