Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities and authorities for this position include, but are certainly not limited to:

  1. Responsible for troubleshooting of equipment and miscellaneous downtime issues.
  2. Performs PLC programming and modifications and troubleshooting.
  3. Performs preventative maintenance for equipment within manufacturers specifications.
  4. Drives Continuous Improvement activities.
  1. Layout and direct projects in Department.
  1. Reads and interprets pneumatic and hydraulic symbols and drawings.
  1. Works with and through Contractor and Supplier representatives to repair machinery and equipment and/or complete assigned projects including set up, installation, repairing and maintaining the machinery/equipment.
  1. Serves as “go to“ for ordering electrical and controls parts and components.
  1. Maintain Maintenance software program(s) or equivalent repair logs.
  1. Fabricating or building items as requested by the Technical Manager.
  1. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  1. Work in compliance with the Quality and Business Operating Systems and all health and safety and environmental legislation.
  1. Applies positive project management skills to effectively carry projects from inception to completion
  2. Comply with established rules, procedures, and Health and Safety Mandates.
  3. Any other duties outline by department manager.
  1. HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Maintenance & Automation Technician is responsible for complying with the Company Health & Safety Program including the Occupational Health Legislation, regulations, standards and Company Health & Safety policies. Reference: JDA-003: Worker/Supplied Labor Health & Safety Responsibilities (Addendum to Worker Job Descriptions).


  1. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR DESIGNATION REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the following minimum education qualifications:

  1. Must have at least a minimum of four years’ experience in an industrial maintenance environment, with preference given to those who have knowledge and experience in the areas of PLC, Robotic, electrical, mechanical and hydraulics.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related field .
  3. Certification/license such as control system engineer, control system technician, or certified automation professional .
  1. MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the following minimum work experience qualifications:

  1. Experience with PLC hardware and software.
  2. Experience with RS Logics, RS Links, and/or SEW drives .
  3. Experience with Allen Bradley PLC’s or Allen Bradley certification .
  1. Knowledgeable or able to learn programming with automation.
  1. Understand AC/DC circuits associated with PLC.
  1. Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests.
  1. Ability to make repairs and change out parts.
  1. Understand the basics of flow diagrams
  1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of pneumatic controls and actuators
  1. Creative thinking skills.
  1. Demonstrate mechanical aptitude relating to motors and pumps requires; mechanical aptitude related to pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, chain drives, air handlers, HVAC and water systems .
  1. Must be available to support emergency repairs via phone or on-site as needed or scheduled, including nights and/or weekends.
  2. Must possess a conceptual understanding or the ability to learn the paint process (Paint)
  3. Ability to perform well in high pressure situations
  4. Must be self-motivated with excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  5. Ability to prioritize and adjust work based on requirement
  6. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, vision and ability to adjust focus


  1. MINIMUM TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the following minimum training:

7.1 SDS Sheets

  1. Quality, Environmental Health & Safety, and other relevant Company Policy awareness

7.3 New Employee (when required)

  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to perform well in high pressure situations.
