Basic Function
Maintains facility, grounds and building in a safe and good working condition using proper policies and procedures. Drives van for activities.
Essential Duties
- Maintains walls, ceilings, floors in good repair.
- Repairs peeling wallpaper or paint.
- Clears sidewalks, drives, fire escapes and entrances of snow, ice and other obstructions.
- Keeps grounds free from refuse and litter.
- Controls weeds around buildings, patios, sidewalks and gardens.
- Maintains lawn, shrubs and gardens in an attractive condition.
- Notifies pest control agency as needed.
- Secures handrails.
- Possesses and applies knowledge of facility policies and procedures/ state and federal regulations.
- Informs affected others when changes in maintenance occur.
- Checks and maintains hot water temperature within legal limits.
- Regulates temperature at comfortable range for residents.
- Keeps heating and air-conditioning units in good working condition.
- Ensures adequate lighting: overhead, over bed, reading lamps, fire exits lights.
- Completes safety checks on residents’ appliances upon admission.
- Maintains call lights and side rails in working condition.
- Completes monthly safety checklist on lifting equipment.
- Maintains and repairs facility and equipment as needed.
- Follows scheduled maintenance checks.
- Schedules and completes mandated semiannual fire inspections with fire representative (tour).
- Schedules annual fire protection equipment inspections and keeps extinguisher tagging current.
- Conducts and maintains record of fire extinguisher inspections, fire drill inspections, fire protection equipment inspections, and alarm systems.
- Conducts tests and maintains, records tests and maintenance of the emergency power system.
- Disposes of garbage and rubbish in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Follows proper incineration procedure.
- Secures adequate supply of oxygen and stores per policy and procedure.
- Secures oxygen tanks to tip-proof container.
- Stores combustibles/poisonous materials in separate and locked cupboard.
- Stores cleaning rags/compounds in closed metal containers.
- Follows manufacturer’s directions for repair/cleaning materials.
- Uses chemicals with caution and in accordance with proper policy and procedure.
- Secures floor coverings and edging to prevent falls.
- Follows safety procedures for use of tools and returns and stores tools properly.
- Observes for safety when working in care area.
- Checks and recommends equipment and supply replacement.
- Stays within budget guidelines.
- Participates in Q.A.A. as directed by Administrator.
- Completes work order requests, reports and projects in a timely manner.
- Prioritizes and organizes work efficiently.
- Follows user directions for all compounds and chemicals.
- Uses proper body mechanics
- Follows proper infection control practices.
- Follows proper hand washing practices.
- Treats residents and staff with respect and dignity.
- Maintains valid Wisconsin driver’s license. Drives in a safe manner, adheres to speed limits.
- Makes sure all residents are belted in, delivered to the proper location on time with appropriate paper work.
- Maintains the facility vehicle related to oil changes, lube jobs, car washes, and repairs as needed.
- Reports promptly any indication of rodents and other pests.
- Maintains clean storage area.
- Treats residents and staff with respect and dignity.
- Adheres to all facility and department safety policies and procedures.
- Assist in moving tenants/patients.
- Other tasks as assigned in accordance with facility and campus needs.
Supervision Received
Receives supervision from the Nursing home Administrator.
Qualifications
- No convictions for abuse, neglect or mistreatment or for misappropriation of property.
- High School graduate or the equivalent.
- Prompt and regular attendance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to read, write and make simple calculations and follow oral and written directions.
- Knowledge of principles and requirements of sanitation and safety in handling maintenance tasks and equipment.
