Position Summary
The Machine Operator supports production of the company’s machined sub-assemblies and/or machined final products. This includes the setup and operation of manual lathes and mills used in the manufacturing of parts out of various grades of metal and plastic. The position follows standard work methods and practices safe work habits to ensure production is as efficient and safe as possible. The Machine Operator must also drive behaviors into our MRP system (ALERE), making the system our single source of truth. The Machine Operator reports directly to the Machine Shop Manager.
Essential Functions

- Set up and operate manual machines (lathes and mills) on metal or plastic workpieces.
- Check to ensure that workpieces are properly lubricated and cooled during machine operation.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces on machines, using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Stop machines to remove finished workpieces or to change tooling, setup, or workpiece placement, according to required machining sequences. Set up future jobs while machines are operating current jobs.
- Maintain machines within operator-level scope; remove and replace broken or worn machine components using hand tools. Listen to machines during operation to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust to compensate for problems.
- Measure dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
- Clean machines, tooling, or parts, using solvents or solutions, and rags.
- Record any defects or other data as requested by supervisors or managers
- Notify supervisor of any mechanical or material issues
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Perform other duties as required and assigned; duties and activities may change over time

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, various temperatures. The employee may operate or work in proximity to high voltage testers and moving mechanical equipment.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk or hear. The position requires the ability to concentrate while performing work. The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

Requirements:
Required Qualifications and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred
Previous machining experience
Must be able to routinely lift 25 pounds
Must be able to work in fast-paced environments
Occasional overtime to meet business needs
Must be conversant in English for safe and effective performance of the job
Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
