Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage CAD Designer to join our project team on a subcontract basis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing low voltage systems (including audio-visual, security, structured cabling, fire alarm, and building automation) using CAD software. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, and the capability to produce accurate design and as-built documentation to support project installations.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop, update, and maintain CAD drawings for low voltage systems including security, AV, data/telecom, access control, and other related technologies.

  • Interpret architectural and engineering plans to create low voltage layouts, riser diagrams, and schematics.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field technicians to ensure accuracy and constructability of designs.
  • Prepare detailed drawings for permitting, construction, and as-built documentation.
  • Maintain organized CAD file structures and follow company drawing standards.
  • Incorporate redlines, design changes, and revisions quickly and accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Work independently to meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a CAD designer or drafter in the low voltage, electrical, or technology systems industry.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar CAD software).
  • Strong understanding of low voltage systems (security, fire alarm, structured cabling, AV, access control).
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, BICSI standards ).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work remotely with minimal supervision and deliver on schedule.

  • BICSI certification or similar industry credentials.
  • Experience with Revit or BIM modeling.
  • Familiarity with construction project submittals and permitting requirements.

Contract Details:
Type: 1099 Independent Contractor.
Work Location: Remote or on-site as required.
Hours: Project-based, flexible schedule with set deadlines.
Compensation: Negotiated per project or hourly rate.
