Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent.
- P.Eng or PE designation (or eligibility for registration) strongly .
- 10+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, with strong expertise in steel, CIP / PC concrete, masonry and light gauge steel studs design. Familiarity with Timber design is a plus.
- Proven experience in automotive, industrial, and manufacturing facility projects. Design completed for commercial, institutional and residential projects is a plus.
- At least 5 years in a lead or senior role overseeing structural design teams and projects.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, STAAD, Tekla, Revit, Advance Steel, Ram Structural Systems, Autodesk Robot).
- Demonstrated experience working in a consulting engineering environment.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and delivering fully integrated design solutions.
- Demonstrated planning, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to communicate ideas and recommendations clearly to other disciplines.
- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and related programs.
Necessary Requirements for Applicants:
- Hold a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Must be able to obtain a US and Canadian work permit.
Responsibilities and Duties:
The Structural Engineering Design Lead will be working closely with and under the supervision of the Structural Engineering Principal, with a primary responsibility to undertake the technical aspect of projects from concept to completion. Responsibilities are, but not limited to, the following:
- Technical Leadership & Design Oversight
- Provide technical direction and quality control for the required structural designs.
- Lead and validate structural design solutions for automotive, industrial, commercial, institutional and residential projects.
- Ensure compliance with CSA, AISC, ACI, and other applicable codes and standards.
- Conduct and/or supervise quality assurance reviews of drawings and deliverables before submission to clients.
- Construction & Field Leadership
- Oversee site investigations, inspections, and verification activities.
- Provide construction administration, including contractor coordination, structural system reviews, and project closeout.
- Ensure all work meets quality assurance and safety standards.
- Mentor & Development
- Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate engineers, designers, and technologists.
- Provide guidance on best practices in structural engineering and project delivery.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and team knowledge-sharing.
- Collaboration & Multi-Disciplinary Coordination
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and architectural groups to deliver integrated projects.
- Provide leadership in BIM coordination, clash detection, and digital project delivery.
- Ensure all project deliverables meet Tandem’s quality standards and client expectations.
