Car Connection Raleigh is seeking an experienced Lead Service Advisor / Shop Operations Manager with strong automotive technician experience. This role is designed for someone who can take over the mechanical side of the business — managing workflow, diagnosing vehicles, supporting mechanics, writing estimates, and ensuring smooth daily operations.
You will oversee the entire service department, including customer vehicles and dealership inventory reconditioning. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands both repair work and shop management.
Responsibilities
Shop Management & Workflow
- Manage daily workload for all mechanics
- Assign jobs, track progress, and ensure repairs are completed on schedule
- Maintain a live log of all open jobs, invoices, parts orders, and completed work
- Schedule repairs, follow-ups, and inspections
- Oversee reconditioning of newly purchased cars and prepare them for front-line retail
Customer & Advisor Duties
- Write estimates and repair orders
- Quote jobs accurately and clearly explain repair needs
- Sell recommended services and follow up on pending work
- Communicate with customers professionally and provide regular updates
- Schedule appointments and coordinate drop-offs/pickups
Technical & Diagnostic Work
- Perform diagnostics on incoming vehicles
- Road test vehicles to verify concerns
- Assist mechanics with troubleshooting when needed
- Perform NC State Safety & Emissions inspections ( or willing to obtain)
- Quality check completed repairs
Parts & Inventory
- Order parts quickly and accurately
- Track parts flow: ordered, received, returns, cores
- Manage vendor relationships and pricing
- Keep shop supplies stocked and organized
Dealership Support (Recon & Frontline Readiness)
- Inspect newly acquired inventory
- Write reconditioning plans and estimates
- Prioritize safety and mechanical repairs
- Ensure each car is fully repaired, detailed, and ready for the lot
Requirements
- Automotive technician experience (required)
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting background
- Ability to write estimates and understand labor/parts pricing
- Experience ordering parts and communicating with vendors
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Professional, reliable, and good with customers
- NC State Inspector license (or willing to obtain)
Skills
- Previous Service Advisor, Shop Foreman, or Shop Manager experience
- Used-car dealership experience
- Reconditioning workflow knowledge
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable with shop management software
