BEPC is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to support our client’s advanced engine engineering initiatives. This position will focus on evaluating and optimizing design requirements for cold-section engine components, including fans, axial compressors, and centrifugal compressors.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive engine experience, strong expertise in fan and compressor mechanical and structural design, and a thorough understanding of applicable FAA, military, and other regulatory standards.
In this role, you will investigate opportunities to tailor existing engine component design requirements while maintaining regulatory compliance and technical integrity. Your work will help identify potential reductions in design criteria, cost, manpower requirements, and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate and identify opportunities for tailoring design requirements for engine cold-section components, including fans, axial compressors, and centrifugal compressors.
- Evaluate existing mechanical and structural design criteria, practices, guidelines, and methodologies.
- Conduct literature and regulatory reviews to identify opportunities to align component design methods with applicable compliance requirements.
- Perform impact analyses to evaluate proposed changes to existing design criteria.
- Estimate potential savings associated with reduced design criteria, including cost, manpower, and schedule improvements.
- Perform structural and mechanical analyses of components and subassemblies.
- Conduct engineering trade-off studies comparing existing and proposed design criteria.
- Develop and demonstrate appropriate testing, validation, and verification methods for fans and compressors.
- Update engineering design criteria, analytical models, and supporting technical documentation.
- Lead fan and compressor engineering efforts while collaborating with functional groups, subject matter experts, and technical leadership.
- Present technical findings, recommendations, and engineering analyses to internal stakeholders and customers.
- Summarize findings from literature and regulatory reviews and identify potential candidate efforts for further evaluation.
- Conduct preliminary impact analyses for identified design improvement opportunities.
Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience with overall engine function, including at least 5 years of experience with engine cold-section components, particularly fans and compressors.
- 5+ years of experience with design criteria, practices, and guidelines for engine cold-section components, with an emphasis on mechanical and structural requirements.
- 5+ years of experience with regulatory agency criteria and guidelines, including military and FAA standards related to engine cold-section components.
- 3+ years of experience leading fan and compressor teams and collaborating with functional groups, subject matter experts, and technical leadership to develop new design criteria and guidelines based on emerging requirements.
- 5+ years of experience performing structural and mechanical analyses of components and subassemblies, including trade-off studies comparing existing and new criteria.
- 3+ years of experience with testing, validation, and verification of fans and compressors.
- 3+ years of customer-facing technical support experience, including technical communication and presentations.
- Strong ability to evaluate complex engineering requirements and translate findings into practical design recommendations.
