Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

Reports To: Engineering & Design Manager

FLSA: Exempt

Status: Full Time

DUTIES:

  • Develop robust, cost-effective mechanical & structural solutions for a range of semiconductor tool pedestals that fall within the tool manufacturer specifications and customer facility requirements.
  • Generate creative design solutions for volume constrained products leveraging new materials and coatings that are in alignment with customer requirements.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles to new and existing designs that drive down cost and increase efficiency through the shop.
  • Develop robust design standards to support the broader team moving towards a more cohesive approach to model and drawing creation.
  • Develop fabrication and machining fixtures that support both in-house manufacturing and key suppliers.
  • Use AutoCAD and Inventor software to create detailed models, drawings, and perform FEA analysis for mechanical assemblies.
  • Support and lead cross-functional projects focused on streamlining the design and release process.
  • Identify opportunities and drive departmental improvement efforts with the broader Design and Engineering team.
  • Create models and drawings for manufacturing using proper standards
  • Ensure design deliverables are in alignment with downstream needs (Planning, manufacturing, quality, install, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate through necessary channels regarding project status and/or challenges encountered, clearly articulating timelines and path to resolution.
  • Partner with Project Management, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Install to resolve design related challenges.
  • Train & mentor team members where needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5-10 years of experience of mechanical design.
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a senior level design or a design lead role.
  • Proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor 2018 or newer.
  • Experience designing for a metal fabrication & machine shop with knowledge of cutting, grinding, forming, welding and milling.
  • Experience with change management systems, standards, CAD systems & file structures, etc.
  • Comfortable working with both metric and U.S. standard units.
  • Familiar navigating an ERP system to identify general information relative to components and materials.
  • Experience with semiconductor industry a plus

EDUCATION:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position is 100% on site. Some remote work will be allowed ONLY on an as needed basis.
  • This role is situated in an office environment within a team of Engineers and Drafters
  • This position is required to work directly with the manufacturing floor where PPE must be worn.
  • Occasional fab visit may be required with proper training and badging.
