Lead Materials Technician



Location: Cumbria, UK

Salary: £50,000

Benefits: 4-day working week / Overtime available

Profile



A senior technical role for an experienced specialist to lead materials and testing activity within a new, purpose-built facility. This position requires authoritative knowledge in inspection and materials testing, with a clear requirement for PCN Level 3 Dye Penetrant Testing.



The Client



A high-precision engineering company supplying aerospace-grade fasteners and machined components to global aerospace manufacturers. Operating from a large and modern site in Cumbria, the organisation is recognised for its precision, quality standards and full traceability.

Following significant investment in a purpose-built testing facility, the business is expanding its quality and materials capability to support long-term aerospace programmes.



Key Responsibilities

Lead and oversee dye penetrant inspection activities, acting as the site authority with PCN Level 3 Dye Penetrant Testing competence.



*



Approve testing procedures, ensure compliance with aerospace and customer standards, and provide technical direction to the wider team.



*



Conduct and oversee destructive testing, validating component strength, hardness and performance.



*



Perform and supervise non-destructive testing to identify surface or sub-surface defects.



*



Analyse findings, produce detailed reports and support continuous improvement initiatives.



*



Maintain documentation, ensure full traceability and uphold quality standards in a safety-critical environment.



Experience Required



*



PCN Level 3 qualified in Dye Penetrant Testing – essential and non-negotiable.



*



Strong background across materials testing, including destructive and non-destructive techniques.



*



Ability to mentor and guide technicians, providing technical leadership across the department.



*



Excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and a methodical approach.
