About the Opportunity: Sterling Engineering's client, a vertically integrated architectural lighting and integrated acoustical systems manufacturer, is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic to join their organization. This Chicago-based company has been a leader in their market for over 25 years, controlling the entire process from conceptual design and engineering to manufacturing and shipping, ensuring superior quality and stability.
Job Duties:
- Lead and manage the daily maintenance activities, coordinating and prioritizing work orders to ensure efficient task completion and equipment reliability.
- Continuously analyze equipment performance to perform advanced troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical systems, including compressors, conveyors, and motors.
- Organize and balance preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to meet production goals and reduce unexpected downtime.
- Identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues, including PLC input/output faults, sensors, and control circuits.
- Support reliability by maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, and parts usage within the CMMS.
- Motivate, train, and mentor less experienced mechanics on proper repair techniques, equipment care, and maintenance best practices.
- Ensure the consistent compliance with safety procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols and company policies.
- Collaborate with production teams to support machine setup, changeovers, and equipment optimization for high-quality manufacturing.
- Drive and implement continuous improvement initiatives and root cause analysis to reduce breakdowns and increase overall equipment reliability.
- Prepare regular reports and documentation regarding maintenance procedures and equipment history.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Two years’ college or equivalent technical work experience is .
- Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in a manufacturing environment with advanced mechanical expertise.
- Proven ability to lead by example, serving as the technical expert for diagnosing issues and recommending corrective actions.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, fabrication, and the ability to interpret mechanical drawings and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with proficiency in diagnosing electrical issues and utilizing CMMS software for maintenance tracking.
- Demonstrated ability to work from ladders/scaffolds (up to 30ft), lift up to 50lbs, and perform tasks in extreme temperature ranges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with bilingual (English/Spanish) skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Valid Illinois Driver's License and Forklift Certification required.
