Job Description
Lead Maintenance Engineer\n\nCentral London/City\n\nSummary\n We are seeking a proactive and experienced Lead Maintenance Engineer to provide leadership, management, and ongoing development to a defined engineering team. This role is critical in ensuring operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and full compliance with health, safety, and statutory requirements. You will act as the key liaison between the client, internal teams, and senior management while driving performance and continuous improvement across the site.\n\nKey Duties & Responsibilities\n\nLead and manage a team of engineers, ensuring operational commitments and KPIs are achieved.\nEnsure compliance with all Health & Safety regulations, including Permit to Work and LOTO procedures.\nOversee subcontractor performance and ensure adherence to RAMS and safe working practices.\nConduct annual appraisals for shift technicians in line with BGIS training protocols.\nMaintain and update the CAFM system (such as Maximo or Concept) with accurate data and ticket closure.\nWork with the Area Contract Manager to maintain high service levels and support Contract Support with customer satisfaction.\nEnsure statutory and code compliance, including asset register accuracy and correct equipment labelling.\nPlan and manage PPM schedules in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and contractual requirements.\nProvide technical support to engineers, the helpdesk, and clients.\nInvestigate major operational incidents and ensure timely resolution.\nAttend and oversee callouts when required.\nPromote strong Health & Safety culture across the engineering team.\nAssist engineers with PPM tasks and maintain regular communication across the team.\nEnsure weekly tasks are completed and support reporting activities.\nMonitor customer service standards, uniform compliance, and the quality of third‑party contractor work.\nEscalate unapproved quoted works that may impact business performance or safety.\nAct as first point of contact for shift issues and mechanical incident escalation.\nProduce and distribute weekly operational reports with the Area Contract Manager.\nCarry out any reasonable requests made by management.\n\nKnowledge & Skills\n\nProven experience in a building services or facilities maintenance environment.\nStrong leadership and team management skills.\nHV/LV Authorised Person certification (or willingness to obtain).\nStrong knowledge of statutory compliance and Health & Safety regulations.\nExperience with CAFM systems such as Maximo or Concept.\nExcellent communication and client‑facing skills.\nTechnical understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including chillers, combustion, and HVAC.BGIS is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes all applicants.
