Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAbout Zero Homes
Our mission is to electrify the world's homes for healthy and sustainable living. Residential electrification is an extraordinary decarbonization opportunity – 145 million homes in the United States account for 20% of our climate emissions. But today electrification is painful – it's too complicated, time consuming, and expensive. So we're building a new experience for homeowners, contractors, and utilities. Zero bridges the gap between the digital and the physical with a frictionless experience that makes electrification fast, easy, and affordable. Join our team to build a world class consumer experience that just so happens to electrify America.
About the Role & Your Impact
You will be Zero's first Lead Growth Engineer, joining our early stage team of talented engineers, designers, and seasoned climate tech leaders. The Lead role is a senior individual contributor who also manages a small team of engineers, reporting to our Head of Product and Engineering. Growth Engineers have a different focus from traditional Product Engineers—they focus entirely on projects dedicated to driving signups, activation, referrals, and revenue, no matter where those projects live in the stack. You will develop growth strategies, run experiments, and build features across our products that directly move the metrics that matter most to our business.
At Zero, you'll own the full growth funnel: SEO, SEM, and AEO, activation experiments, signup and onboarding flows, in-app messaging, and conversion optimization. You'll collaborate extensively with leadership to transform business opportunities into measurable growth initiatives, use data to direct strategies, and report numbers out to the entire business. Most of all, you’ll be a builder: vibing prototypes, running A/B tests, and shipping features that bring your growth ideas to life.
Some examples of projects you may take on at Zero include a deep dive into how homeowners use LLMs for home upgrade projects, create an experience prospective customer use to estimate the cost of their HVAC project, or optimize our email, text and in-app messaging. The code you write will be directly responsible for accelerating the deployment of millions of dollars into safer, healthier, and more cost-effective homes.
We use Nuxt, TypeScript, and Tailwind, but no one on our team had experience with that complete stack before joining—and we don't expect you to either. You will be given broad latitude to make product-level decisions and expected to operate effectively with minimal oversight.
What You Bring
You are entrepreneurial and experimental. You have the hustle to find areas where you can make a large impact on growth metrics, and you develop solutions yourself to improve them. You run many experiments, care more about real results than perfect designs, and are comfortable with ambiguity. Former technical founders often thrive in this role.
You are a generalist engineer with discerning standards. Whether optimizing signup funnels, building billing systems, writing A/B tests, or setting up in-app messaging, you want to own projects from beginning to end. You have at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience across a range of , frameworks, and cloud environments, and you are constantly learning new technologies.
You are data-driven. More than other engineering roles, you obsess over usage data, sweat the metrics, and leverage it to guide your work. You use data to inform which ideas to pursue, design experiments with clear hypotheses, and rigorously evaluate results. You know how to calculate significance and what metrics actually matter.
You are a detail-oriented systems thinker. You want to own the whole funnel, not just isolated features. You anchor your work on user needs and understand how users operate in a larger context. You may not have experience in climate tech or building science, but you are eager to dive into the messy world of residential electrification.
You are a pragmatic, experienced team leader. You know that experiments only matter if they ship. You are eager to collaborate with leaders, designers, and engineers across Zero, and you're ready to manage and develop a small team of growth-focused engineers. Hard decisions and tough tradeoffs are required to deliver projects within a fixed time box. You want agency, but you know that comes with the responsibility to communicate and deliver.
You are enthusiastic about in-person work. You love engaging in healthy debates with teammates and converging on solutions in real time. You want to know your users by name and see the impact of your work in their experience. You live within 50 miles of Denver, CO or are willing to relocate.Nice to Haves
