Position Summary
We are seeking a Lead Extrusion/Compounding Operator to oversee the internal movement of material between production, warehouse, and operations, and to monitor compounding lines safely and efficiently in accordance with procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Transfers product on pallet jacks and forklifts and manually loads materials into the feed system.
- Oversees and loads/unloads from the top and bottom of railcars.
- Operates production equipment with the ability to independently set up the feed system, extruder, and auxiliary equipment.
- Collects and organizes production records.
- Monitors the status of the process, troubleshoots, and reports details to the supervisor and the QA staff.
- Cleans the process equipment and facilities to maintain a clean work environment.
- Inspects and notates the condition of the product in railcars.
- Supervises and performs efficient clean-outs on production equipment for changeovers.
- Directs and completes specific equipment and facility improvement projects.
- Provides insight that will help with the implementation of improvements.
- Complies with and supports company safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures, and promotes a culture of safety and quality across the organization
Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Compute rate, ratio, and percent, and draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Skills and Experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a manufacturing and production environment and requires regular presence on the production floor. The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, equipment noise, forklift traffic, and varying temperatures.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and communicate effectively. The employee may be required to bend, stoop, reach, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
