Lead Environmental Inspector (Field Based)
ERM is hiring a Lead Environmental Inspector to oversee environmental compliance during the construction phase of energy projects across the United States. The role requires field-based oversight and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and conduct environmental training for construction personnel.
Conduct field inspections, monitoring, and survey work as directed.
Act as point of contact with agency officials, regulators, landowners, contractors, and clients; conduct required agency notifications.
Review and implement project documents, providing critical judgment on environmental compliance issues.
Provide technical leadership to field staff, coordinating daily schedules and conducting morning construction meetings.
Assess environmental conditions in the field to evaluate potential impacts; evaluate potential issues prior to construction activities.
Oversee implementation of mitigation measures and conduct environmental sampling (e.g., hydrostatic test water, soil).
Verify flagging of wetland boundaries, cultural and biological resources exclusion zones, refueling zones, etc.
Inspect and document compliance by preparing daily written inspection reports with photo documentation.
Participate in construction meetings and prepare documentation to support permit variances.
Evaluate restoration activities and direct project Environmental Inspectors.
Perform additional tasks as assigned or required.
REQUIREMENTS
BS or BA , equivalent environmental inspection or monitoring experience, or a minimum of 6 years of relevant construction experience.
4+ years of environmental inspection, monitoring, or permitting experience specific to linear and/or energy infrastructure projects.
Understanding of construction (pipelines, power lines, compressor stations, gas storage fields, wind farms, solar facilities, offshore facilities) gained through field experience.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Proficient technical skills, including Microsoft Office and digital cameras.
Knowledge of environmental sampling methods.
Ability to travel extensively and work 4070+ hours per week in a physically demanding, temporary assignment.
Physically fit to walk/hike up to 10 hours per day on uneven terrain, carry up to 10 pounds of equipment, and work in all weather conditions.
