LEAD ENGINEER – REAL-TIME SYSTEMS / HARDWARE INTEGRATION
Salary: £70,000 – £75,000
Working Pattern: Primarily office-based
Avanti are supporting a specialist technology organisation developing advanced real-time systems used in demanding, real-world environments. Their engineering work sits close to hardware, combining low-level software development with sensor-driven data processing and high reliability requirements.
The team is growing and they are now seeking a hands-on Lead Engineer who can contribute directly to real-time development while also providing mentoring and technical guidance to a group of junior engineers.
The Role
As Lead Engineer, you will:
• Design and develop real-time, hardware-integrated software
• Write and maintain device drivers and low-level components
• Work primarily in Linux, interacting directly with physical hardware
• Review code, guide junior developers and support their technical development
• Help shape engineering best practice in a small, focused technical team
This role remains highly hands-on, with approximately 75 percent of your time spent on development.
What We’re Looking For
• Strong background in C, Go or C# (one is sufficient)
• Experience in real-time systems, hardware interaction or systems-level development
• Comfortable working with drivers, protocols and low-level data handling
• Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
• A systems thinker who enjoys solving complex, real-world technical challenges
Why This Role?
• Deeply technical environment focused on real-time, hardware-connected engineering
• Small, capable team where you will have meaningful influence
• Opportunity to work on technology used internationally in high-demand settings
• Stable, well-supported organisation with long-term growth
