Position Summary:

The Lead Process Safety Engineer is responsible for the process safety deliverables, setting Company’s Process Safety in Design (PSID) philosophy, and participating in risk reviews such as HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA studies. This includes developing and presenting the Company’s HSSE Plan and ensures HSE is emphasized throughout all process design activities. The Lead Process Safety Engineer will play an active role in the development of the safety culture on the project, making safety a natural part of all work performed.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct and facilitate PHAs (e.g., HAZOPs, LOPA) and other risk assessment techniques to identify, analyze, and evaluate process hazards at LNG facilities.
  • Develop and implement risk control solutions to mitigate identified process safety hazards, manage risk registers, and ensure effective risk management strategies are in place.
  • Drive developing various elements of the Company’s Process Safety Management program, including Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR), to ensure process integrity and safety.
  • Lead or participate in the investigation of process safety events, conduct root cause analyses, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provide engineering and technical input during the design phase of new projects and the modification of existing facilities, ensuring compliance with industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote and advance a strong process safety culture by providing technical guidance, mentoring others, and ensuring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are monitored and visible across the organization.
  • Support the management and maintenance of Process Safety Information (PSI) to ensure it is up-to-date and accessible for risk management and operational planning.
  • Oversee and execute advanced hazard analyses for dispersion (flammable/toxic), explosion, and fire scenarios using available software tools. Proficiency in facility siting and risk assessment software (e.g., PHAST, SAFETI).
  • Demonstrated strong skills in the following:
    1. Consequence and frequency analyses
    2. Fault / Event Tree Analysis
    3. ALARP demonstrations
    4. Bow Tie Analysis
  • Familiar with the various applicable federal, state, and local agencies and applicable laws, regulations, NFPA codes, standards, and permits required to operate LNG terminals, including but not limited to: PHMSA, FERC, NFPA 59A, DOT, OSHA, USCG, EPA, and knowledge of emergency response operations, planning, techniques, and reporting.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform the position successfully.

Education, Certificates, and Licenses:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. Advanced degree .

Experience:

  • 15 plus years of prior or relevant work experience required.
  • LNG experience is strongly .

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proactive and problem-solving attitude, analytic, flexible, team player.
  • Ability to attend to details and work in a time-conscious and time effective manner in multiple work settings including remote work and communications environment when required.
  • Familiarity with Oil and Gas industry best in class specifications and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve issues and develop viable solutions.
  • Proven ability to transfer and communicate knowledge as well as stay aware of current trends and advancements in the LNG industry.
  • Proven ability to work closely with Regulatory to ensure all PHMSA and other regulatory requirements are met.
  • Ability to collaborate with other company departments as required to support Project delivery.
