For the right lead engineer, this is a genuine opportunity to build a career for life, with the potential to progress to senior engineering, management, or specialist technical roles.\n\nRole Purpose\n\nAs a Lead Engineer, you will operate as the site lead engineer, responsible for the maintenance, service, repair, and replacement of electrical and mechanical systems within a critical healthcare environment. You will ensure all building services operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with statutory and contractual requirements.\n\nWorking as part of an on-site engineering team, the successful lead engineer will provide technical leadership, set engineering standards, and play a key role in maintaining business continuity in a highly critical setting where reliability and professionalism are essential.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * \n\n Act as the site lead engineer, overseeing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across electrical and mechanical systems\n\n * \n\n Maintain and repair plant and equipment typically found in critical hospital environments, including:\n\n * \n\n Electrical distribution systems\n\n * \n\n HVAC systems (AHUs, FCUs, chillers, boilers)\n\n * \n\n Pumps, motors, and associated mechanical plant\n\n * \n\n Emergency lighting and power systems\n\n * \n\n Provide technical support and guidance to on-site engineers as a lead engineer\n\n * \n\n Ensure all works are completed in line with health & safety regulations and site procedures\n\n * \n\n Accurately complete maintenance records and documentation\n\n * \n\n Liaise with subcontractors, specialist service providers, and the client as the site lead engineer\n\n * \n\n Support continuous improvement of building services and site reliability\n\n * \n\n Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach at all times as a lead engineer\n\nSkills & Experience Required\n\n * \n\n Recognised electrical or mechanical engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent)\n\n * \n\n Proven experience operating in a senior or lead engineer position within commercial or critical environments\n\n * \n\n Strong technical knowledge across both electrical and mechanical disciplines\n\n * \n\n Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic, and decision-making skills expected of a lead engineer\n\n * \n\n Knowledge of statutory compliance, permits, and safe systems of work\n\n * \n\n Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills\n\n * \n\n Ability to work Monday to Friday during normal working hours\n\nWhat’s On Offer\n\n * \n\n £41,000 salary\n\n * \n\n Permanent, stable employment for a lead engineer with a global FM market leader\n\n * \n\n Site-based role in Oxford only – no travel required\n\n * \n\n Structured training and development programmes\n\n * \n\n Clear progression pathways into senior engineering, management, and contract leadership roles\n\n * \n\n Opportunity to build a long-term career with one employer\n\n * \n\n Exposure to a highly technical and critical healthcare environment\n\nWhy Apply?\n\nThis is a rare opportunity for a lead engineer to join a world-class Facilities Management organisation where career progression is genuinely achievable.
