Job Description

Lead Compression Engineer\n\nLocation: Edinburgh - Ideally onsite 5 days per week\n Salary: £65,000-£75,000 per annum\n Working Hours: 37 hours per week (flexible)\n Benefits:\n\n26 days annual leave + bank holidays\n\nPension contribution\n\nSick pay\n\nNo travel required\n\nPotential for hybrid working for the right candidate\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe are looking for an experienced Lead Compression Engineer to join our engineering team. In this key role, you will take ownership of compressor design and optimisation, working from first principles to deliver robust, high-performing mechanical solutions. You will work closely with cross-discipline teams and support product development through simulation, testing, and data-driven decision making.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead design and development of compression systems using engineering fundamentals\n\nPerform simulation work to support design decisions and product optimisation\n\nUse Matlab to analyse and model system behaviour\n\nCarry out flow calculations and capture manufacturing data to inform engineering outputs\n\nApply mechanical engineering expertise to complex system challenges\n\nCommunicate effectively with engineering teams and other disciplines to ensure project alignment\n\nEssential Experience & Skills\n\nStrong mechanical engineering background\n\nPractical experience with simulation tools\n\nExposure to Matlab for analysis and modelling\n\nComfortable handling design from first principles\n\nFamiliarity with flow calculations and mechanical systems engineering\n\nExcellent communicator, able to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams\n\nDesirable Skills\n\nExperience working with compressors\n\nExperience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor\n\nExposure to product optimisation activities
