Lead Electronic Design Engineer – Hampshire – £65,000 - £70,000\n\nWe're seeking a seasoned Lead Electronic Design Engineer to take the technical lead on the development of advanced electronic systems. In this role, you’ll be pivotal in shaping innovative, high-reliability hardware solutions alongside cross-functional teams, contributing directly to mission-critical technologies that support defence and safety.\n\nWhat You’ll Be Doing:\n\nYour role will span a broad range of activities, including:\n\n * Leading planning efforts and estimating resource needs for new electronic design initiatives\n\n * Owning and managing technical risks, ensuring mitigation strategies are in place\n\n * Generating initial concepts, schematics, and detailed specifications\n\n * Preparing documentation for design reviews and validation plans\n\n * Conducting testing for verification, validation, and supporting factory acceptance procedures\n\n * Ensuring traceability of all design modifications and managing proper release and archival\n\n * Participating in peer design reviews and guiding formal design approval stages\n\n * Carrying out electronics thermal modelling (training provided if needed)\n\n * Leading Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) sessions\n\n * Driving cost-effective designs that align with BOM targets and development budgets\n\n * Identifying ways to streamline and strengthen engineering processes\n\n * Mentoring less experienced engineers and collaborating with external design partners\n\n * Working alongside production teams to troubleshoot issues during prototype builds\n\nWhat You’ll Bring:\n\n * Eligibility for UK Security Clearance (essential)\n\n * A degree in Electronics Engineering or equivalent practical experience\n\n * Strong hands-on expertise designing and laying out electronic circuits using tools such as Altium\n\n * Solid understanding of EMC principles and best practices for compliance\n\n * Experience incorporating JTAG into PCB designs\n\n * Knowledge of electronic packaging and mechanical integration\n\n * Practical experience with microcontrollers and low-level coding\n\n * Skills in test-oriented design and defining robust test coverage strategies\n\n * Experience with analogue circuits for sensor interfacing\n\n * Familiarity with specifying and integrating power/battery solutions for challenging environments\n\n * Confidence in accurately estimating task duration and working independently to deliver on time\n\nDesirable Extras:\n\n * Experience with thermal simulation tools (SolidWorks Electronics Cooling is a plus)\n\n * Background in designing Intrinsically Safe (IS) electronics\n\n * Exposure to LabVIEW or automated test environments\n\n * Knowledge of or experience applying Defence Standards\n\n * Hands-on skills in embedded programming using C or C++\n\n * Experience within highly regulated sectors such as Defence or Aerospace\n\nPlease Note: Due to the nature of the work, roles may be subject to security clearance requirements and may be open only to UK
