Lead Design Engineer – Power Transmission (Inside IR35)
Location: Glasgow, UK – Hybrid (2 days every 2 weeks onsite)
Contract: 12 months | Rate: £600–£640/day (Inside IR35) Client give £100 per day for each day in Glasgow.

Overview
Spencer Ogden is partnering with a major UK utility investing in the nation’s high-voltage transmission network. We’re seeking an experienced Lead Design Engineer to take ownership of complex electrical design projects (33kV–400kV) supporting the UK’s transition to net zero and the modernisation of the grid.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead design delivery across all project phases, from feasibility to detailed design.
* Provide technical leadership for substation design (132kV and above), covering switchgear, transformers, and protection systems.
* Prepare and review engineering documentation for compliance, safety, and feasibility.
* Define equipment specifications, support procurement, and lead technical tender evaluations.
* Offer technical support through construction and commissioning.
* Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, H&S standards, and company engineering policies.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to engineering standards development.
Requirements
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership.
* Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Strong background in transmission substation and plant engineering (33kV–400kV).
* Knowledge of Transmission Network Operator (TNO) design standards and safety regulations.
* Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Skilled in tender assessment, specification writing, and stakeholder management.
