Role- Lead Design Engineer
Salary- £60,000 - £75,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Type- Permanent
Location- Southampton
My client provides products and engineering solutions within the consumer product sector. They are looking for a Lead Design Engineer to join their team in Southampton on a permanent basis.
The Lead Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
At least 4 years’ experience in a similar Design Engineering / CAD Operation position
Experience working with different materials, metal, plastics or in a highly regulated industry would be beneficial
Experienced with full lifecycle product design
Excellent proficiency with CAD software – ideally SolidWorks, Inventor or similar
HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ / Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or similar
Proven ability to drive Engineering development
Good mathematical and general engineering knowledge
Excellent knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials –castings, machining etc.
The ability to understand system requirements
Excellent leadership skills with experience managing others
Be self-motivated with excellent attention to detail
Have excellent communication skills both verbal and written
The Lead Design Engineer role will involve:
Using CAD for concept design and producing technical drawings
New product and technology development, from concept to completion
Supporting key decision making in the design department
Leading a small team
Reviewing orders and creating plans to modify designs or design from scratch
Liaising with manufacturing providers
Being involved in final assembly of products
Being involved with technical updates and improvements
Creating the required documentation for design as well as project reports / plans
Updating 3D models and drawings
Inputting parts into the MRP system creating BOMs
Checking drawings for sign off
Working in a small multi-disciplinary team on varied projects
