Job Description
Job Summary
As a lead build engineer at Plantd you will work with leadership to implement and maintain build systems and workflows to support the sourcing, fabrication, assembly, and testing of production equipment. This role focuses on streamlining build processes, ensuring reliable and repeatable builds, and collaborating with design, manufacturing, and control/automation teams to deliver high-quality products. The Build Engineer plays a critical role in machine development and production processes and maintaining version control for hardware designs and embedded systems. We are looking for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving problems and want to make an impact on the world.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Document build processes, configurations, and best practices to ensure consistency and knowledge sharing
- Identify opportunities to improve build workflows, reduce errors, and enhance automation
- Mentor a team of build engineers, adopt standards for machining / fabrication capability, inventory control, and supplier parts
- Identify, organize and maintain test support equipment and tooling needed for new machine builds
- Optimize build processes to reduce build times and improve efficiency
- Compile and analyze issues and initiate changes to improve manufacturability
- Manage test plans and campaigns for new machines before they are put into production
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for new machine builds, reporting to executives and engineering leads
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Thinks fast and adapts to changing conditions
- Hands on experience with fabrication of sheet metal structures, machine components, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, or scientific discipline OR 3+ years of professional experience building structural or electromechanical systems
- Relevant experience in end to end product development
