Job Purpose:
The Field Service Technician is responsible for fitting, sanitary welding, grinding, and polishing work as assigned by the LCS Service Manager. Cross training for fitting, sanitary welding, grinding, and polishing of piping projects may be included. Service work rebuilding pumps, valves, and troubleshooting liquid food processing equipment will be common. They are to adhere to all Krones Process Group North America work instructions, and safety policies. Engagement in Continuous Improvement and Lean Initiatives is also required. The Field Service Technician works through a detailed job Skills Matrix, providing advancement, accountability, and personal growth.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Layout, fit, weld and finish piping components per drawing.
- Rebuild and/or troubleshoot centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, manual and automated valves plate and frame heat exchangers.
- Sanitary welding of food grade piping.
- Safe use of power industrial trucks (PIT) and other manufacturing equipment.
- Develop advanced skills and competency from the Skills Matrix.
- Understand 3A procedures and requirements for food-grade tank fabrication, repair, process piping, etc.
- Identify deficiencies and assist in developing methods and procedures for improving processes.
- Train newer team members as required in the Skills Matrix.
- Maintain up to date safety training per company standards.
- Accurately fill out all required documentation, time sheets, Field Service Reports, etc.
- Accurate use of time-keeping system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: Advanced education or welding certification.
Experience/Training (Tank/Equipment Repairs): 4+ years of experience with GTAW and GMAW welding processes. Experience in stainless steel manufacturing of tanks and associated equipment. This will be needed during tank service projects or when in the shop between field projects. Must pass a 6 G 100% penetration weld test on scheduled pipe and tube in the first 90 days.
Experience/Training (Piping): Secondary experience in pipefitting applications, this will be needed during tank service projects or when in the shop between field projects.
Experience/Training (Mechanical and Electrical troubleshooting and repair): Secondary experience in Mechanical and Electrical troubleshooting issues and repairs. Ability to read electrical schematics. Strong mechanical aptitude.
Professional Skills
- Lead and manage small projects with multiple team members.
- Knowledge of metric and standard measurement systems.
- Basic computer skills are required (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
- The ability to read blueprints and follow written instructions is required.
Soft Skills
General social skills, capacity for teamwork, problem-solving competence, general project management, time and self-management, coordination and organizational skills, and communication skills, both written and orally.
Self-starter is a must.
Physical / Working Demands
- Generally good working conditions in both a manufacturing plant and customer’s sites. Moderate physical effort including frequent standing/walking and occasional exposure to high noise levels is required. During the summer months, exposure to heat and humidity may occur. Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling of objects weighing 30-50 pounds (45%). Manual dexterity and typing are required (20%). Stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching are required (35%). Noise levels in work areas may fluctuate from 82 to 110 decibels.
- Equipment used includes calculators, measuring devices, hand tools, and welders. Overhead crane use may be required.
- Ability to understand both spoken and written directions and good vision required.
- Personal protective equipment required includes protective-toed safety shoes and safety glasses with side shields, face shield, welding helmet, hard hat, respirator (in some cases may be required).
- Appropriate OSHA and/or Krones Process Group North America safety training(s) are required.
- Maintain a safe working environment and comply with all safety and environmental policies/procedures. Each employee is to place environmental health and safety requirements as the priority in the performance of their work duties. An employee is responsible for notifying their immediate supervisor of a violation or deficiency in working conditions and for recommending corrective measures, if possible. Additionally, the employee’s immediate supervisor is to be notified of every injury or illness, or near miss.
- Extended overnight trips to the customer’s site are expected. Hotel costs are currently covered by a company provided expense account and credit card. Per diem will be expensed out on the same report and deposited by direct deposit.
- Travel by means of a company vehicle, plane or other modes of transportation as needed up to 80%.
