Hourly, Monday through Friday

15 hours per week / 3 hours per day, flexible hours

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for day-to-day sample preparation in the chemistry department, focusing on performing microwave-assisted acid digestion to prepare cannabis and cannabis products for elemental heavy metals analysis.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform representative subsampling of cannabis flower, extract, and infused product batches — ensuring homogeneity and compliance with SOPs.
• Prepare subsamples for analysis according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), including accurate weighing, grinding or homogenizing (if applicable), and proper sample labeling and tracking.
• Conduct microwave acid digestion of cannabis and cannabis-derived products using closed-vessel microwave digestion systems according to SOPs: weigh and place samples into digestion vessels, add appropriate concentrated acids, run digestion protocols under controlled pressure and temperature, and safely cool, transfer, and dilute digestates.
• Maintain quality control: clean and inspect digestion vessels, run blanks and control samples, document digestion conditions, sample weights, volumes, and chain-of-custody.
• Follow all safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols while handling concentrated acids and operating microwave digestion equipment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• High attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and ability to follow precise protocols.
• Comfortable handling strong acids and working with closed-vessel microwave digestion systems and associated lab equipment.
• Ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced lab environment.
• HS diploma
• Must undergo background check prior to hire
• Familiar with Microsoft Excel

• BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related natural science.
• Prior experience with sample preparation workflows, homogenization, gravimetric analysis, and/or digestion procedures in a regulated analytical laboratory.
