Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Location: 94 South Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748
Pay Rate: $25.99/hr
Duration: 12 months
Job Description:
Day to Day:
- Review emails and media orders first thing in the morning.
- Analyse gravimetric samples or prepare media for a few hours.
- Open boxes of samples from UPS and FedEx and check them against the Chain of Custody.
- Correspond with customers and the lab’s Production Coordinator about any sample issues.
- Log samples into the lab’s LIMS system for several hours.
- Prepare outgoing media shipments and create UPS labels.
- Enter received chemicals into the chemical inventory system (sealed, unopened bottles of solvents, metals, etc. No exposure or handling; training provided). This occurs a few times a week/month.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to complete data entry of submitted samples (~50%).
- Collect and package media listed on Media Order form independently and ship media orders to clients (~30%).
- Perform gravimetric analysis of air samples prior to preparation for contaminant-specific analysis following the lab’s quality control procedures (~10%).
- Assemble and prepare air sampling media for industrial hygienists and external clients (~10%).
- Written and verbal interaction with clients to support media requests and sample log-in.
Skills Needed:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Able to easily adopt new technology.
- Knowledge of MS Office.
- Familiarity with computers and ability to learn various programs quickly.
- Knowledge of a LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is but not required.
