Laboratory Technician
Job DescriptionJob Description
You will be a member of our technical services staff, working with customers, engineers, equipment technicians and sales specialists to provide metallurgical applications support. You will work alongside colleagues in the preparation of metallurgical samples, development of new preparation procedures, testing of new consumables and equipment, and document and editing. You will work with Allied’s metallurgical sample preparation equipment, advanced optical microscopes, imaging software, and hardness testing products.
Responsibilities:
- Develop metallurgical sample preparation procedures using Allied equipment and consumables.
- Collaborate with colleagues to write and edit scientific documentation, including lab reports, application notes, articles, papers, and presentations.
- Use optical microscopy to obtain images suitable for use in documentation creation and analysis techniques.
- Use imaging software to perform metallurgical analysis techniques, such as grain size analysis, multiphase analysis and layer thickness analysis.
- Perform testing on incoming products, new equipment and consumables.
- Assist with customer communication, technical support calls and emails.
- Adhere to style guides for consistency in documentation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant work or school experience.
- Associate’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, listening, and problem-solving skills.
- Required computer skills: MS Office Suite
- Previous experience with metallographic sample preparation, microscopy & imaging is a plus.
- Mechanical/technical experience is a plus.
- Ability to write reports, chart data and provide other technical documentation is a plus.
- Must have the right to work in the US.
