Compounding Manager
Position Summary
The position manages the Compounding department within a multi shift personal care manufacturing facility. These duties will be performed in accordance with the company's Laboratory Methods and Good Manufacturing Practices to meet manufacturing demands within specified quality limits and service-based time constraints.
Essential Responsibilities
· Works with Production Planner, Operation Manager, and Shift Supervisors to create a daily compounding schedule to keep the filling lines as full and efficient as possible while balancing the customer commitment dates
· Works with R&D to create and improve batch records/manufacturing procedures for compounders to follow in batching process
· Provides assessment of the manufacturability of new formulas being developed by R&D and formulas being considered for transfer from other manufacturers
· Reviews and signs off on initial manufacturing procedures for new launch formulas. Works with R&D to scale up from lab to production batches for first time product launches
· Is the subject matter expert regarding existing equipment, provides recommendations on equipment and infrastructure needs to scale growth and efficiency, and coordinates projects to land and qualify new equipment
· Addresses formula related quality issues and provides leadership in trouble shooting, problem solving, and permanent resolution
· Recruits, develops, motivates, and evaluates performance of direct reports, and assigns job duties, explains expectations, maintains attendance and timekeeping records, administers corrective action, and resolves conflicts with direct reports
· Facilitates the training plans and technical skill development of compounders across all shifts to enable the onboarding of new compounders and professional development of existing compounders
· Works with the Quality Department on the development and revision of SOPs for the compounding area. Responsible for ensuring staff are trained on, and adhere to, SOPs, GMPs, and housekeeping
· Responsible for maintaining and improving the processes for raw material inventory management, including cycle counting and material allocation to work orders
· Serves as key member of cross-functional teams, working closely with R&D, Quality, Operations Management, Warehouse Management, Planning and Purchasing
· Coordinates with Maintenance Manager and external vendors to maintain our water system
· Creates and maintains a safe working environment to support our goal of zero recordable injuries
· Compound batches as necessary
Additional Responsibilities
· Accepts direction and feedback with a positive attitude through appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
· Adheres to strict personnel hygiene and work area sanitation standards as promulgated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is required along with compliance with applicable regulations with regard to OSHA, EPA, FDA, HPB, TTB and SQF in particular; and others as indicated within company Policies as written
· Provides support to other departments as needed and as time permits
· Updates knowledge and develops professionally on a continuing basis. Participates in internal and external training and development opportunities as required.
· Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in an applied science or engineering discipline
- Minimum 5+ years in a manufacturing environment
- Prior experience in liquid blending environment strongly
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficient English ability – comprehension, reading, writing, and speaking. Working Spanish ability desired
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills
- Excellent attention to details
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Able to work with sense of urgency to meet deadlines
