Position Summary

Manages and coordinates day-to-day laboratory functions of the branch. Monitors the daily workflow in the laboratory to ensure efficient use of time and manpower. Participates in routine testing in the laboratory as needed. Has the authority and responsibility for back filling for a Laboratory Shift Lead in his/her absence.


Minimum Requirements

• B.S. (Chemistry or related science) degree is or a minimum of five years general laboratory experience or three years experience in a petroleum laboratory.

• Must possess inter-personal skills and have ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Must be able to distinguish . Must pass pulmonary test for respirator use.


Responsibilities

  • Acts as the liaison between laboratory staff and respective Laboratory Manager.
  • Directly responsible for laboratory submitted samples and the clients involved with these accounts. Will ensure that updated PO’s/Reference numbers are provided and will work directly with CRB to handle invoice disputes.
  • Works in conjunction with the Laboratory Manager to obtain day-to-day analytical testing requirements from Operations Department based upon nominations received from clients to provide accurate, reliable results on a timely basis. Will pre-log testing on a case-by-case basis to eliminate grade and test grade problems in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures that laboratory staff and visitors follow all documented safety requirements as defined by the company safety program.
  • Uses judgment and discretion in coordinating and scheduling the work activities of laboratory staff consistent with accepted operating practices and procedures, including periods during non-working hours, weekends, and holidays. Has the authority to call in additional Laboratory Technicians to work to meet day-to-day requirements.
  • Receives, compiles, and verifies the data resulting from laboratory analyses on submitted samples and supervises the preparation of the applicable reports as per-standard procedures.
  • Assists in the maintenance and control of the sample retain area, including standard cradle to grave sample requirements and waste disposal.
  • Assists in the training of Laboratory Technicians.
  • Will take on other collateral duties, on a case-by-case basis as prescribed by the Laboratory Manager that will aide in the efficient operation of the laboratory.

  • Mobility: Must be able to move freely within laboratory, testing, and warehouse areas, including standing and walking for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day).
  • Lifting & Carrying: Ability to lift, move, and carry laboratory samples, test equipment, and materials weighing up to 25–50 pounds occasionally.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle instruments, operate laboratory and computer equipment, and perform detailed work.
  • Posture & Movement: Regular bending, stooping, reaching, and occasional climbing or balancing may be required to access storage areas, test setups, or sample racks.
  • Visual Requirements: Must have close, distance, and vision sufficient to perform inspections, read labels and instruments, and distinguish test materials.
  • Hearing & Communication: Must be able to hear alarms, equipment signals, and verbal instructions clearly in a laboratory or industrial environment.
  • Environmental Conditions:
  • Exposure to laboratory and industrial environments, including noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, and temperature variations.

  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, lab coats, and occasionally respirators or hearing protection.
