Job Overview

Primex Clinical Laboratories is looking for a proactive Laboratory Collections Specialist to accelerate collections on outstanding balances from insurers, patients, and direct clients. You will lead outreach efforts, negotiate payment arrangements, and partner with billing and operations teams to preserve cash flow—all while delivering a positive experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • A/R Management: Monitor and review aging reports to identify delinquent accounts across insurance, patient, and client invoices.

  • Outreach & Negotiation: Initiate timely phone calls and emails to patients and payers, explain balances, and negotiate payment plans or settlements.

  • Insurance Follow‑Up: Manage insurance accounts receivable queues—research claim status, resolve denials, and coordinate with the billing team for resubmissions or appeals.

  • Payment Processing: Record incoming payments, apply to appropriate accounts, and track payment commitments.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with lab operations, client services, and billing to address discrepancies, clarify services rendered, and escalate unresolved issues.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain thorough records of collection activities; prepare weekly reports on recovery rates, days sales outstanding (DSO), and trends.

  • Compliance & Professionalism: Ensure all collection practices respect HIPAA privacy rules and ethical standards—balancing persistence with empathy and professionalism.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify process bottlenecks in the collections cycle and recommend workflow enhancements to accelerate cash collections.

Requirements

  • Experience: 2–3 years of medical or laboratory collections, accounts receivable, or related roles in a healthcare setting.

  • Industry Knowledge: Comfortable interpreting EOBs, understanding payer remittance advice, and navigating insurance workflows.

  • Systems Savvy: Proficient with collections or billing platforms (e.g., Kareo, AdvancedMD) and skilled in Excel for tracking A/R metrics.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Confident handling difficult conversations—able to maintain positive relationships while recovering payments.

  • Organizational Excellence: Detail‑oriented with strong follow‑through; you keep tasks moving and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

  • Results‑Driven: A self‑starter who sets and achieves collection targets and continuously seeks ways to improve performance.
