Lab Accessioner/ Processor from the hours of 6:00 pm to 2:30 am. Monday through Friday. Accessioner/ Processor will be responsible for performing specimen accessioning, sample sorting and data entry in a fast-paced environment according to the laboratory standard operating procedures. The Accessioner/ Processor ensures the integrity of laboratory specimens and accurate data entry. The Accessioner/ Processor provides a smooth workflow within the laboratory that facilitates the accurate and timely accessioning of cases received and forwarding them on to the appropriate laboratory section for testing. Also, the Accessioner/ Processor performs any other duties asked to be performed by the Cytology Supervisor, AP Manager or Medical Director.
Duties of a Lab Accessioner/ Processor:
• Receiving, sorting and handling of gynecologic specimens.
• Unpack and route specimens to their respective Laboratory section.
• Ensuring all patient specimens received match the corresponding requisitions and are in compliance with all CAP and CLIA receiving guidelines.
• Ensuring proper storage and testing of all specimens.
• Data Entry – entering pertinent patient information and procedure names into the LIS system accurately to ensure proper patient diagnosis as well as printing out additional labels when necessary.
• Processing of Cytology specimens while maintaining compliance with all CLIA and CAP guidelines.
• Adhere to quality control guidelines to ensure integrity of laboratory specimens and accurate data entry.
• Ability to follow lab safety practices when working with hazardous materials.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards determined by the Laboratory Medical Director.
• Documentation of any discrepancies during the receiving process, i.e. different patient names, incorrect requisition.
• Generate and organize mid-day and closing lists for all special testing specimens.
• Filing of cytology slides after final review.
• Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste
• Comply with applicable environmental health and safety policies and procedures
