Rate: $85-$89/hour W2
Duration: 18-24 Months

Overview
We are seeking a Key Management Service (KMS) Operations Engineer responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and optimizing a secure key management infrastructure. This role partners closely with engineering, operations, and security teams to ensure encryption key services are reliable, scalable, and compliant with enterprise security standards. The engineer will support operational management of Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) and enterprise key management platforms while ensuring strong cryptographic controls across the environment.
Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, and optimize the performance and availability of enterprise Key Management Service (KMS) infrastructure.
  • Administer and support Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) used for secure cryptographic key storage and lifecycle management.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain key management platforms including Thales HSM and CipherTrust Manager (formerly Vormetric).
  • Implement and maintain key lifecycle processes including key , rotation, archival, and revocation.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues related to encryption, decryption, and key access across distributed systems.
  • Support incident and problem management processes using tools such as ServiceNow or Remedy.
  • Collaborate with security and engineering teams to implement cryptographic best practices and compliance controls.
  • Develop scripts or automation (preferably Python) to improve operational efficiency and monitoring.
  • Maintain Linux/Unix-based infrastructure supporting key management services.
  • Assist with integration of cloud-based key management platforms where applicable.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on operational experience supporting enterprise Key Management Systems.
  • Strong experience with Thales Hardware Security Modules (HSM).
  • Experience with CipherTrust Manager (formerly Vormetric).
  • Solid Linux/Unix administration background.
  • Understanding of cryptographic principles and key management best practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting encryption and key management issues in production environments.
  • Scripting or programming experience (Python ; other acceptable).
  • Familiarity with incident and problem management workflows using ServiceNow, Remedy, or similar tools.

/ Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with cloud-based key management solutions such as AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault, or Google Cloud KMS.
  • Experience supporting Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) encryption models.
  • Prior experience in large enterprise or financial services environments.
  • Previous experience supporting Bank of America environments is a plus.

Typical Background

  • Several years of experience working with cryptographic infrastructure, key management platforms, or HSM technologies.
  • Experience supporting implementation, enhancement, upgrade, or operational management of encryption systems in production environments.
