Job DescriptionJunior Mechanical Development Engineer

An established precision engineering business, specialising in high-performance machined components and complex assemblies for highly regulated, safety-critical sectors, is looking for a Junior Mechanical Development Engineer to join its Design team.

This is a hands-on and varied role, where the Junior Mechanical Development Engineer will bridge the gap between design, manufacture, and production readiness, ensuring customer assemblies are robust, practical, and fully defined.

This opportunity would suit a Junior Mechanical Development Engineer with at least 6 months of industrial experience who is looking to develop their career within a fast-paced engineering environment. Full training will be provided, making it an excellent move for a Junior Mechanical Development Engineer looking to build experience in development, manufacturability, and BOM engineering.

We are ideally looking for someone local to the Berkshire site or willing to relocate to join this collaborative and innovative team.

The Role

Working closely with design, manufacturing, purchasing, and production teams, the Junior Mechanical Development Engineer will support the development and review of complex mechanical assemblies, ensuring they are fully manufacturable and production-ready.

Key responsibilities will include:

    \n
  • Reviewing customer assemblies for manufacturability and workshop suitability
  • \n

  • Assessing standard and bespoke components for supplier and in-house production capability
  • \n

  • Supporting design for manufacture (DFM) and production readiness reviews
  • \n

  • Liaising with design engineers to identify issues and recommend engineering solutions
  • \n

  • Supporting tooling, jig, and fixture requirements
  • \n

  • Creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and MRP data
  • \n

  • Working cross-functionally with purchasing and commercial teams on lead times and supplier requirements
  • \n

What We’re Looking For

    \n
  • Mechanical Engineering degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent
  • \n

  • At least 6 months of industrial engineering experience
  • \n

  • Exposure to manufacturing, design, development, or workshop processes
  • \n

  • CAD experience (Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
  • \n

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • \n

  • Positive and proactive attitude
  • \n

  • Interest in performance engineering, or advanced manufacturing is advantageous
  • \n

  • Ideally local to the site or willing to relocate
  • \n
