Journeyman Electrician (2nd Shift)

Summary:

Our client is seeking a Journeyman Electrician to join their team! This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability of manufacturing processes, maintaining electrical and mechanical systems, and supporting plant safety and efficiency. The ideal candidate brings strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.


  • Shift: 2nd (2pm - 10pm)
  • Shift rotation: M-F, every other Saturday or Sunday
  • Off every other weekend plus every other Sunday (subject to production changes)


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with process standards, industry specifications, and safety requirements
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including annual PMs, on electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, P&IDs, single-lines, and wiring diagrams
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues without direct supervision
  • Follow all safety rules, LOTO procedures, and departmental policies to ensure a safe work environment
  • Investigate job sites, determine the scope of reactive work, and prepare the required safety equipment and tools
  • Operate and use electrical testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, voltmeters, and calibration units
  • Identify and communicate follow-up work needed, completing work orders with detailed notes and labor tracking
  • Support the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, ladder logic, analog and digital control devices, and plant instrumentation
  • Resolve equipment communication issues, including PLC/PC interfaces, barcode readers, RFID, and other devices
  • Assist with electronic controlled equipment, plant instrumentation, and data collection system maintenance
  • Communicate issues and actions effectively through written pass-downs and documentation
  • Collaborate with supervisors to resolve problems and move to the next priority work as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of manufacturing maintenance experience
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude
  • Experience in troubleshooting PLCs and ladder logic
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed electrical drawings and schematics
  • Willingness to participate in the Hazmat team
  • Ability to work weekends and off-shift hours as needed
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize daily workload
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills


Education/Certification Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required
  • An Electrical/Maintenance Journeyman License in the State of Michigan is required


Qualifications:

  • Experience programming and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley systems
  • Background in food processing maintenance environments
  • Ability to troubleshoot 480 VAC 3-phase motor controls, 120 VAC, and 24VDC control circuits
  • Computer literacy with eagerness to learn SAP/PPE systems
  • Experience with calibration equipment such as RTD calibrators and digital multimeters
