Overview

EVOCATIVE/VPLS is seeking an IT Field Technician to support on-site technology equipment processing, decommissioning, and inventory activities. This part-time, limited-term assignment involves hardware handling, equipment sorting, workstation component removal, and maintaining accurate asset documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and confident, working hands-on with IT hardware.

This role requires on-site work on a consistent schedule, averaging approximately 8 hours every other week, with each workday consisting of 4 hours on-site. The assignment is expected to run for a defined duration.

Responsibilities

· Sort and process technology equipment based on pre-defined labeling and categorization instructions.

· Handle workstations, monitors, network devices, and internal components such as hard drives, memory, and CPUs.

· Apply asset tags to designated equipment and update tracking logs or documentation as directed.

· Maintain organized staging areas and ensure proper placement of equipment for retention, recycling, disposal, or other disposition categories.

· Identify workstation units designated for decommissioning and follow defined procedures for component removal.

· Safely remove hard drives and place them into secure collection containers.

· Relocate drives to designated areas after required data-handling steps are completed.

· Follow chain-of-custody guidelines for sensitive components when applicable.

· Follow guidance from the assigned on-site lead or coordinator to complete daily tasks.

· Assist with equipment movement, staging, and physical organization of materials within designated areas.

· Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly workspace at the end of each shift.

· Provide brief end-of-day updates summarizing completed work, issues encountered, and materials still pending.

Requirements

· Solid hands-on technical experience with computer hardware, including safely removing, handling, and processing components such as hard drives, memory modules, and CPUs.

· Strong capability in workstation teardown, hard drive removal, asset tagging, equipment organization, and maintaining accurate tracking documentation.

· Ability to interpret and follow structured instructions, technical procedures, and labeling systems.

· Understanding of safe handling protocols for IT equipment, including chain-of-custody and secure material segregation.

· Strong communication skills with the ability to escalate issues appropriately.

· High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and physical processing.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds

· Ability to move equipment safely and work in varying physical positions.

· Ability to navigate stairs and carry equipment as needed.

· Ability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift.

Other Requirements

· Must be able to commute to the assigned on-site location during scheduled workdays reliably.

· Must comply with all safety guidelines associated with the work environment.

· Must be able to work 4-hour on-site shifts, 2 days every other week, on a consistent schedule for the defined duration.

· On-site shifts are scheduled during standard business hours.
