Summary/Objective

The Inventory Control Specialist 1 has the primary responsibility of increasing and maintaining company profitability by maintaining accurate inventory levels while ensuring that optimal inventory is present and ready for use. The ideal candidate will have well-developed analytical skills, be detail-oriented, and be able to work with a minimal amount of supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Ensure that inventory counts are completed regularly and in a timely manner.
  • Conduct cycle counts regularly by counting and recording inventory levels to identify discrepancies and maintain data integrity.
  • Ensure item location and quantity accuracy.
  • Label and store items in designated locations.
  • Conduct regular area sweeps to ensure proper storage of items.
  • Investigate reporting discrepancies and communicate issues effectively and in a timely manner verbally or via email or Teams.
  • Operate, or be willing to train on, an order picker or high-reach truck to retrieve items stored on higher shelves; use RF scan gun.
  • Data entry and recordkeeping to maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records using our inventory management system.
  • Collaborate with other departments and communicate effectively with sales, purchasing, and operations teams to ensure smooth inventory flow.
  • Review and analyze inventory shortage issues and provide data to determine the cause.
  • Prepare and distribute reports as required by management.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Competencies

  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook and Word. Ability to learn to use the company’s ERP system. Ability to operate or learn to operate material handling equipment including high-reach, order picker and/or scissor-lift; and RF scan gun.
  • Analytical Skills: Recognizing patterns in data, information, or events, drawing logical conclusions, and making recommendations for action
  • Attention to Detail: Monitoring adherence to standards and actively checking for accuracy of data received or generated before passing it on
  • Flexibility: Performing a wide range of tasks, responding to changes in direction and priorities, and accepting new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments
  • Communication: Listening effectively, transmitting information accurately and understandably, and actively seeking feedback non-defensively

  • Dependability/Reliability: Following through on commitments, producing timely work to required – or higher - standards, and pitching in to get the job done.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position during the first shift of the workday, currently 7:30 am – 4:00 pm.

•During peak season, shifts may extend up to 2 hours later, depending on workload demands.

Travel

This position rarely requires travel.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and work on a computer. This position is light activity and at times, may require standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, fingering, grasping, feeling, and lifting. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. Certain tasks require standing for extended periods. Must be comfortable with heights.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School degree required.
  • Prior inventory control or supply chain experience in manufacturing or distribution .
