PACE is seeking an Instrumentation and Controls Technician with a comprehensive understanding of advance electrical, instrumentation and PLC control systems and associated component functions, including fabricating, installation, troubleshooting, repair and commissioning to support our growing Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) group.
The Instrumentation and Controls Technician will be supporting the design, fabrication and deployment of controls and instrumentation in the following market sectors:
- Potable & Non-Potable Water Production, Storage & Distribution
- Water & Wastewater Treatment
- Pumping Facilities
- Cogeneration & Solar Power Production
- Water Quality and Environmental Monitoring
- Recreational Aquatic Facilities
Applicants shall have the following minimum experience:
- At least 3 years of experience performing field commissioning PLC control panels and troubleshooting and modifying wiring of instrumentation equipment (transducers, transmitters, analyzers, flow meters, VFD, motor controls and electrically actuated valves)
- Specific Skills Needed:
- Good understanding on the use of a Fluke and other trouble shooting equipment
- Troubleshoot analog signals, network communication such as Ethernet IP, Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP/IP
- Installing and calibrating advanced instrumentation devices according to manufacturer specifications, schematics and P&IDs
- Understanding of wiring schematics and field instrumentation field wiring through experience or coursework
- Must be able to work independently and handle complex tasks with limited supervision
- Strong ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues independently or as part of a team
- Must be able to analyze a situation, evaluate data and make sound decisions to resolve technical challenges
- MS Excel, MS Word
- Valid CA driver’s license and insurable driving record
Preferences
The following skills are not required, but are highly desirable:
- Commercial/Industrial Electrical experience is definitely a plus
- Design of control panel and instrumentation systems
- Exposure to the development of P&ID's and associated I/O diagrams through experience or coursework
- Familiarity and programming experience with Modicon and/or Allen Bradley using Unity or RS Logix is a plus
- Proficient with AutoCAD
- Familiarity and programming experience with SCADA & HMI systems
- Experience working with PC networks, MS Windows and Apple OS in an industrial environment
- Experience with water treatment and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping facilities, and water storage / conveyance systems

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands, handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; vision is very helpful. Field work and travel with overnight stays will be required.
Work Environment
Must have good transportation, flexibility to travel with occasional overnight stays in California and states surrounding California. The noise level in the office work environment is moderate. The noise level in the field work environment will include working in and around operating machinery, exposed electrical systems and potentially dusty and dirty environments. The candidate will be required to work in external environments in all weather conditions.
