Overview
Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer to support the development and delivery of offshore platform projects.
The role will focus on ensuring control and instrumentation systems are designed, integrated, and commissioned to meet project specifications, operational requirements, and international safety standards.
The Role
The Instrumentation & Control Engineer will provide technical oversight and coordination for control and instrumentation systems across the design, construction, and commissioning phases of offshore wellhead platform developments.
Working within a multidisciplinary project environment, the role involves reviewing contractor engineering deliverables, supporting system integration, and ensuring instrumentation and automation systems are implemented safely and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and assess engineering deliverables related to instrumentation and control systems, including instrument indexes, datasheets, I/O lists, and control documentation
- Ensure I&C system designs comply with project specifications, relevant industry standards, and safety integrity requirements
- Support integration of process control systems, safety instrumented systems, and emergency shutdown systems
- Participate in technical reviews and safety studies to validate control and safety functions
- Review control philosophies, functional specifications, and automation strategies for offshore facilities
- Oversee integration and configuration of automation platforms including PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems
- Ensure correct specification and installation of field instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level devices
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines and vendors to ensure effective integration of control systems
- Support commissioning activities including loop checks, system testing, and final handover documentation
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in instrumentation and control engineering within offshore oil & gas or energy projects
- Knowledge of control system architectures including DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, and fire & gas systems
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA, IEC 61508/61511, API, and ATEX/IECEx
- Experience with field instrumentation selection, installation, and calibration for offshore environments
- Understanding of control system integration, communication protocols, and automation platforms
- Ability to interpret technical documentation including P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control system drawings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, or Control Engineering
- Minimum 10 years’ experience within instrumentation and control engineering for offshore or energy projects
- Experience reviewing EPC contractor deliverables within complex project environments
- Knowledge of major automation platforms such as Honeywell, Siemens, Yokogawa, ABB, Emerson, or Schneider
- Offshore certification (e.g. BOSIET / FOET) is advantageous

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
