You start your morning walking the line with Operations, reviewing overnight trends from the data historian and prioritizing improvements that boost uptime and quality. By mid-morning, you’re pairing with Reliability to evaluate a troublesome drive system, tuning PLC logic and collaborating with IT to ensure secure connectivity. After lunch, you’re mentoring a technician through a new HMI diagnostic workflow, then closing the day by refining a CapEx presentation for an automation upgrade that strengthens equipment reliability.

What you'll tackle

  • Drive process, equipment, and facility enhancements that lift efficiency, product quality, and overall uptime.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Reliability, and IT to deliver integrated automation solutions.
  • Coach and guide maintenance/technical teams on automation and process control challenges.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex control-system, automation, and process issues.
  • Plan and manage automation/controls projects end-to-end, including budgets, schedules, and compliance requirements.
  • Evaluate equipment reliability and propose upgrade roadmaps when needed.
  • Develop and present capital expenditure proposals backed by data and business impact.
  • Advance digitalization efforts, leveraging AI/ML, plant data systems, and Industry 4.0/5.0 concepts.
  • Provide occasional after-hours assistance for critical plant situations.

Minimum qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
  • Approximately 3+ years in factory automation, controls, or instrumentation.
  • PLC/HMI programming proficiency (Siemens experience ).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and solid project management skills.
  • Clear communicator with a collaborative mindset across functions.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

qualifications

  • Hands-on exposure to Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies.
  • Experience in rolling, steel, or aluminum manufacturing environments.
