Description:
This 8-week Opto-Electronics offers a unique opportunity to develop hands-on skills in a laboratory environment while actively participating in research and development (R&D) engineering processes. The will gain valuable experience in New Product Introduction (NPI), product support, and quality management within the optics and electronics, domain.
The Excelitas Analytical Systems division designs and builds power conversion and flash lighting products to custom requirements in the medical, semiconductor, industrial, security inspection and research equipment markets. Our engineering projects range in scope from minor modifications of existing products to concept-through-production of new systems.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in laboratory experiments and data collection using spectrometers and other optical measurement instruments.
- Develop and utilize software tools to process and analyze experimental data.
- Participate in the development of performance metrics and apply design for manufacture (DFM) principles.
- Gain a thorough understanding of lighting performance metrics and the operational principles of Xenon arc light sources.
- Collaborate with engineering teams through regular meetings to report, discuss, and interpret data findings.
- Support the development of intellectual property related to opto-electronic systems and devices.
- Analyze manufacturing data and engage in troubleshooting and problem-solving for underperforming products.
- Contribute to quality management initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Opto-Electronics, Physics, or a Science related field.
- Strong interest in optics, electronics, and R&D engineering.
- Basic programming or software development skills are a plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Compensation:
- Pay Range: $22hr - $27hr Depending on Experience
This position requires the use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
