ICMS is seeking an HVAC Mechanic (Building Engineer) for the technical operations of a federal facility. This role is essential to ensuring continuous and smooth operation, tenant comfort, and system reliability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate, maintain, and repair all HVAC systems including air handlers, rooftop units, VAVs, chillers, boilers, heat pumps, and exhaust systems
- Plan, Schedule, perform and/or monitor preventive and corrective maintenance on all MEP systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Vertical Transportation) including lighting, breakers, transformers, motors, switchgear, and panels
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and adjust Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS) to optimize building performance and energy efficiency
- Respond to work orders, tenant service requests, and emergency calls, ensuring timely resolution of issues with minimal downtime
- Maintain daily logs, equipment records, and documentation in CMMS
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Coordinate and oversee work by third-party vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with safety standards and service agreements
- Manage staff to provide general maintenance, tenant support, custodial and grounds care
- Ensure all systems operate in accordance with local, state, and federal codes, including OSHA, NEC, and ASHRAE guidelines
- Perform routine inspections of mechanical rooms, electrical closets, and rooftop equipment
- Participate in emergency response plans, fire drills, and after-hours on-call rotations as needed.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or an Associate’s degree in HVAC, Electrical Technology, or Building Maintenance
- Eight years of experience in commercial or federal building operations and facilities maintenance.
- At least five (5) years of recent (within the past 7 years) experience in a supervisory capacity with similar characteristics and complexity to be maintained as this requirement.
- EPA 608 Certification required
- A/C Refrigeration Operator Certification required
- One or more of the following certifications (or equivalent experience):
- N.A.P.E. Air Conditioning III – Operations and Management ( Association of Power Engineers)
- Advanced Boiler Operator Certification
- International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) (Class 2 minimum, Class 1 ) stationary engineer
- Experience implementing preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and prevent equipment failures
- Proficiency in managing HVAC personnel and general maintenance workers (GMWs), ensuring high-quality work performance.
- Fluent in English (spoken, written, and reading comprehension)
- Must be available outside of standard working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to respond to emergencies, urgent operational needs, or other unforeseen situations as required
- Experience in government contracting is highly desired
- Must meet federal government security clearance standards, requiring at least a Public Trust background investigation.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to climb ladders, use power tools, and perform heavy physical labor as needed
- Exposure to wet, humid conditions, chemicals, fumes, and dust
- Work may include outdoor exposure to inclement weather
Security Clearance:
It is mandatory that all Contractor personnel working onsite at federal facilities meet federal government security clearance standards. Minimum investigation at a Public Trust level required.

Job Type: Full Time Onsite Position (Telecommute will not be considered for this position)
Work schedules are subject to change based on client and company needs. As a management position, this person will be on call regularly and be available for and respond to emergencies off shift.
