HVAC Design Engineer
Job DescriptionJob Description
Job Summary:
We’re building the next of high-efficiency HVAC systems—and we need an experienced HVAC Design Engineer to help lead the charge.
If you’re passionate about energy efficiency, love getting hands-on with system design, and want to be part of a small, fast-moving team making real impact, this role is for you. You’ll take the lead on designing critical HVAC components—indoor coils, condensers, refrigerant piping, and more—for our upcoming 10 Ton Packaged and 5 Ton Split System Heat Pump product lines.
You’ll work closely with our product development, manufacturing, and sales teams to bring innovative, performance-driven systems from concept to production.
The ideal candidate will be capable of taking designs from concept through production and work cross-functionally with manufacturing and sales teams to support technical selections and production readiness.
What You'll Do:
-
Own the design and optimization of HVAC system components—indoor coils, condensers, refrigerant circuits, valves, expansion devices and fans—with a sharp focus on energy efficiency (COP, EER, SEER, HSPF).
-
Engineer and validate system performance using thermal modeling tools and performance simulation software.
-
Translate performance targets into real, buildable, scalable systems.
-
Select key components (compressors, heat exchangers, controls) based on technical and commercial criteria.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with industry regulations (AHRI, DOE, UL, etc.)
-
Work side-by-side with our manufacturing partners to ensure designs are production-ready.
-
Support our growing sales and applications team with technical product selections, system specs, and performance data.
-
Lead technical reviews, build engineering documentation (CAD models, BOMs, performance reports), and troubleshoot issues from lab to line.
-
Stay updated on HVAC industry trends, technologies, and regulatory standards.
What You Bring (Education & Experience):
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
-
5+ years of hands-on HVAC system/component design experience (heat pumps, coils, or air conditioning units).
-
Experience designing high-efficiency systems with a strong understanding of thermodynamic principles.
-
Professional Engineering (P.E.) license required.
-
Experience collaborating cross-functionally—engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, and sales.
-
Familiarity with component selection tools and HVAC performance modeling software (e.g., CoilDesigner, CoolProp, EES, or similar).
-
Familiarity with relevant industry standards (AHRI, DOE, UL, etc.).
What You Know (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
-
Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid flow, and HVAC efficiency metrics.
-
Skilled in component/system modeling using tools like CoilDesigner, EES, CoolProp, or similar.
-
Proficient with CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and able to create clean, detailed technical drawings.
-
Comfortable making data-driven design decisions and optimizing for both performance and manufacturability.
-
Ability to interpret and apply regulatory and compliance standards (UL, AHRI, DOE).
-
Clear communicator and natural collaborator—able to explain complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical teams.
-
Self-starter with a startup mindset—adaptable, resourceful, and ready to take ownership.
What It’s Like to Work Here:
-
We move fast, iterate quickly, and expect everyone to bring ideas to the table.
-
You’ll work in a mix of office, test lab, and manufacturing environments.
-
Occasional travel (up to 15%) to supplier sites, test facilities, or customer meetings.
-
We're a mission-driven team that believes in building smarter, cleaner, and more efficient HVAC systems for the future.
Company DescriptionOriginally launched in 2014, our initial focus was creating a thermal collector to reduce the energy consumption of air conditioning systems. This approach harnesses the Sun’s thermal energy and combines high efficiency air conditioners to save energy on cooling costs.
Starting in 2024, we have evolved into a complete systems manufacturer, taking the best-in-class cooling technology and crafting a purpose-built commercial air conditioner, featuring our patented thermal collectors.
Our cooling platform boasts inverter compressors, for full variable speed performance, and ready-made integration ports for the thermal collectors. This complete approach delivers hyper efficiency, utilizes renewable energy, and on average saves 42% on cooling related costs.Company DescriptionOriginally launched in 2014, our initial focus was creating a thermal collector to reduce the energy consumption of air conditioning systems.
